SUVS
In the article “Are SUVs Destroying The Environment?” by John Barry, he states the dangers in the invention of the SUV. He stated that SUV’s have increased the depletion of the ozone because of the fumes they expel. SUVs pollute about the same amount as trucks. This is hurting not only our environment but also, our health. Passenger vehicles such as the SUV are becoming a popular idea where as cars are being left behind. Passenger vehicles are making manufactures’ money, as sales are up 50%. The government has helped the manufacture as they have lowered fuel emission standards that cars have to meet. He goes on to state that although these vehicles are hurting our environment they are also saving lives. The National Highway Transportation Safety Board has conducted studies that prove that for every 100 pound taken off passenger vehicles, an estimate 10,000 more life-changing injuries occur.
Now I can see both sides of the argument. The fact that our ozone is depleting quickly worries me. The faster our ozone depletes the worse our environment will become. Eventually the earth will not be a healthy environment for generations that follow us. The other worry that intimately touches my life is the increase in asthma. The more fumes are expelled, the instances of asthma has increased. I have a child with asthma and although her case is not bad, these facts still worry me. I agree that there should be higher regulations met on the manufacture of passenger vehicles.
Now while I believe that passenger vehicles should uphold to a higher standard, I also could see the other side. I believe that facts are staring us in the face. When Passenger vehicles are manufactured to be lighter and more fuel efficient, 10,000 lives change in motor vehicle accidents. The lines are hazy when it comes to this issue. Should we keep the regulations low, which in turn causes environmental and health problems. On the other hand, should we raise the standards and put lives at risk sooner than later. There is a bill in the works that could make these vehicles conform to regulations by 2009. I believe that this vote is going to be a hard decision for all that research this topic and vote. As either way it seems like this situation has negative results.

Produced by kids on the Hill
The “Good food for thought video” produced by Kids on the Hill. This video is 6 minutes long. The video opened with the title made up of healthy food. The children in this video first describe what colors healthy foods are. They describe how the nutrients in healthy food make your body smarter, stronger, faster an overall leaving your body feel great. They ask the question as to why people eat and drink food that leaves your body feeling bad. While this little girl asks the question, they show a child drinking a diet Coke. She then takes a run and ends up sitting down out of breath. The video shows food with additives that your body does not know what to do with it. The children also state in the video about how serious your diet is to African Americans. The fat and additives cause health problems by clogging arteries and slowing your body down. They offer an alternative to by foods by stating how healthy food helps your boy and make you healthier.

I started this blog for my english class.
I did a recent search on the enviroment. The search led me to a very interesting article.
''Very special place' yields rare birds, primates
Cambodia forest is home to endangered vulture species, leaf monkey"
